As noted, the previous thread was long & has become cumbersome, so I'm continuing here.

Re: the mystery of the quilt in message #148, previous thread. After having a good think, I remember laying this out, and then packing it up L to R by blocks and numbering by rows. I don't remember sewing it so surely it must be somewhere, right?

In the meanwhile, I measured the three remaining quilt tops (set for donation). I need to manufacture more Frankenstein battings and come up with some backings before I can go further with them.

Hope you find the 148 quilt pieces! I loved the look of that.

>310 Oh, I'm sorry. I wasn't very clear with that question, was I? I meant the question about neutrals, and most of the succeeding stuff to be addressed to the group, but it certainly isn't clear. Maybe I shouldn't be addressing my theories in your thread, anyway. I have a little high-function autism, I think, and I am sometimes unintentionally tactless. I think your work is great. I don't mean to pose as some expert, either. I have really made fewer than 10 quilts.

What I love about the quilts in #65 and #148 is this: the edges of the blocks seem to flicker, with the seams evanescent. I think the effect is caused by the pale background and the paler pieces near the edges of the blocks. They run into each other a little. It reminds me of the comment made by Dudes22 about your black and brights quilt #52. The comment is in message #50, and it refers to the black centers looking like they have additional triangles attached wherever one of the edging triangles are dark enough to look like part of the black. She references the bottom right square in the picture in post #48.

>2 mabith: Found them last night in the bin where I stash my random scrappy blocks. Thank you. (148 was the message # in the last thread where the photo is, # of pieces is probably something like 250 :-)

>3 sallypursell: No worries, really.

>4 sallypursell: I see what you are saying now.

Realized I actually have 7 quilts here ready to be donated, now 8 as I finished another one last night.
There are two more to be put together and quilted, and as tedious as I find that part of quilt-making, I think I will do those so I will have an even 10 quilts to deliver. I made a few Frankenstein battings yesterday, this time from the "white" batting scraps.

But new ideas are percolating. (and I've just spent the morning cleaning, reorganizing and rearranging the studio—which I tend to do about twice a year).

Have been busy doing other things (and we had the 4 yo grandson for 2 days/nights). Gave a friend a number of my plants and bushes so the two of us spent an afternoon wrestling with those. I did finished charity quilt #9, so just need to put #10 together when I find some appropriate backing.

I love being outdoors in the fall (never mind the seasonal pie-baking) so this may interfere with my creative time.

I hear you. Lots of puttering in the garden. And the weather's been so summer-like here, I've been spending some time each day just sitting on the porch and reading.

Today, I drove down to the Wish Project in Lowell (MA) to turn over my 10 quilts. They were thrilled, made a little fuss, and insisted on taking a photo of me actually donating them (a bit embarrassing) but it felt really satisfying to know that they will go to families in need. Perhaps next year I’ll have another batch to give.

This is what happened to the photo:

I should have guessed it would end up in the weekly email (the above is an excerpt). They send out a nice, reasonably long email each week that highlights promotions and "drives" they are doing, or thanking groups and individuals for their efforts, discussing routine needs and regular needs...etc. I'm glad the photo was decent because just before dropping those quilts off, I had been to the registry to renew my license and you know how those photos go....

I don't blame them for making a fuss. I know I'd think the gods had seriously smiled on me if someone dropped off a load of handmade quilts!

That's really great Lois! I need to get my act together and finish a bunch of mine.

Have been in a lull of sorts. I go into the studio to just doodle around, sewing scraps together. I've made two more lap quilt tops, and working on a third. These will be donated when in the future I'm inspired to finish them. Otherwise, I have too damn many ideas in my head of possible projects and I can't seem to settle on any one, so I am on Ancestry.com checking the ancestors and updating my list of immigrant ancestors. ha ha.

Not much has changed in a week since the previous post. My young cousin brought over a large paper grocery bag of fabric for me. She was trying to downsize. "I don't know why I keep everything, " she lamented. I just smiled). Once washed, it filled a laundry basket.

Some of that fabric makes it in the colored sorted piles on the shelves, some of it gets cut up and put into various bins, and larger pieces go on another shelf. So, with some of that fabric, some matching lovely pieces, I put together a 3x3ft piece, found some older fabric in the stash for suitable borders and finished another charity quilt top. That's four in the pile now.

And I've dropped off the pineapple quilt and the wild goose chase (the one I did with all my ancient fabrics scraps dating back to the 70s) with the Melissa the quilter.

Did a shift at the Quilt Museum in Lowell at the MassQuilts documentation day. There were 6 or 7 of us. Most, but not all, of the quilts brought in for documentation were crazy quilts this particular day. All the quilts are always interesting. We check over the paperwork the owners bring in, take photos of the quilt overall and any particular thing about it (interesting detail or backing...etc). Then the crew document size, materials, pattern used, date it...etc. That day the dates ranged from 1830s to the late 1940s. May be back at this for the Dec 12th session, if there are enough other qualified volunteers.

Construction in the house in the last week, so little sewing or reading is getting done. I did start to sew some of my scrappy squares together and spent some time sorting buckets of scraps (small pieces, short strips, long strips, triangles...etc), but the noise in the house makes it hard to think.

Maybe when I get back in the spring, I'll get some more info from you about the documentation day. I have a yo-yo quilt that m husband's grandmother made that I'd like to get some info on.

Large construction? Or a touch-up before the holidays? I have a few small things I'd like to do, but not this time of year.

The hickory flooring install, which was 800 sq ft and included complications and lots of closets and other fussy work, is finally all done and we've been slowly putting things back in place. Everything in those areas has to be dusted (even the walls!) because it's covered in a fine white dust (long story, but it something from the prior owners' carpet install that needed correcting). Might get it all back in order before the daughter & family show up next Weds.
