Dear Staff:
I attempted to add a record today, but it got combined with another record. The title in question is Needville, record https://www.librarything.com/work/23859375

The title of both works is Needville by Sara M. Robinson. However, the work which was published in 2019 by Cedar Creek Publishing is a volume of poems; the subtitle is poems. This work is 85 pages.

Sara M. Robinson has also written a play which is currently either self-published or not published. Unfortunately, its title is also Needville; the play is based on the book of poetry but they are two entirely separate works. The play has as its subtitle: A play in two acts with twenty-four scenes. We are going to give a local production of it at our retirement community, primarily for our community residents, in early March. The play is 59 pages on 8 1/2 x 11 inch paper. These are two entirely different publications, and the records should be separated.

Thanks in advance for taking care of this.

Someone else separated them. (Probably not staff. This sort of thing is usually done by members.)

I have added a work to work relationship. Based on your description I said that the play 'Is an adaptation of' the poems. This will help keep them separate in future.

>2 MarthaJeanne: That was me - I was going to comment here but got distracted. The problem is that everything after the colon in the titles is ignored, so the system thinks the titles are the same (which is annoying). It looks like sallylou61 entered both records - you could amend them to have a dash in the title instead of a colon, just in case there are similar problems again in the future.

It's usually not a problem after they have once been separated. Work-to-work blocks combining. Yes, if someone else enters one it could land in the wrong work, but now that the colons are in there they would still be there as ghosts. So we separate again. The real problem comes if someone enters a book without including the subtitle or ISBN. It sounds, though, as if it would likely be the poems with ISBN.
