New Series Page Display issues

I have created a new series page (https://www.librarything.com/nseries/311645/Doctor-Who-The-Complete-History) for the 90 volume Doctor Who: The Complete History and I have noticed two bugs:

1) The covers across the top appears to be set to show up to 15 covers at a time (or per row when showing all), but only 13 are showing completely, the 14th is partly cut off and the 15th is not showing at all. When you click on next the first cover to show in the next group starts with the 16th cover (the second row if you show all).

2) I have default sorted by volume number, but the books (magazines actually) were published is a different order. When I try to sort by publication order it fails to do so. I have entered the original publication date in each works common knowledge section.

Um, so we now have three Complete History Series for Doctor Who? Oh wait, the other two are only holding a few. Can we delete those then?

I do have one question for your #2 - How long ago did you add the date to the Common Knowledge? Sometimes the cacheing takes up to 24 hours to catch up for some computations.

Hi, I created the new series as the two others you mention appear to be locked old style series and I was unable to added to or delete either one. So, yes, please delete them.

As for entering the publication dates I did that yesterday. I don;t know exactly when, but likely 12-18 hours ago.

As for 1) The cover shelf isn't set to show a particular number of covers. It simply depends on the width of your browser. There are some calculations to decide how many to show but we use some averages for book widths because we don't always know the width of a cover when we build the page (ie amazon covers). Every once in a while it guesses wrong if every cover on the shelf is wider than the average.

Thanks for the reply. I use Chrome on Windows 10. FYI, my original observation was with it at full screen, but if I make the screen less then full width it just cuts of more covers and still starts the next set or row with the 16th cover.

As for the publication order issue, I have an update. I now see that 15 books have the year next to them, so it is updating. However, it is only using the year and not the full date I entered in the yyyy-mm-dd format. So it is only sorting them broadly by year but not in correct chronological order within each year.

Which bug are you referring to in >7 supersidvicious:? Or both?

1. Won't be solved until I can embark on a project to rework how we display book shelves. It's a particularly hard problem because we use them in various contexts (with prev/next paged content, non-paged, multiple rows, single rows, etc.). This will, by necessity, happen after the LT2 transition.

>8 conceptDawg: wrong spacing of covers: almost every 10th cover on every row is sliced, the 11th is hidden

>9 supersidvicious: This series is an outlier (and one that I've addressed before). The cover calculation code uses averages for cover size, because we don't know the cover sizes when we build the page—some of them come from us, some from amazon, etc.

This particular series has covers that are ALL wider than the average, which tilts the calculations into error. It's a problem but not a terribly troubling one. And eventually I want to rebuild how we do shelves anyway, which would solve all of these problems.
