Good day! I am new to the group, joining specifically to ask the below question but also excited to hop on board as I have been a lonely collector of Limited Edition Club books for years and am happy to find a bunch of people like myself all at once - it's always been a person here and there at random moments.
Anyway, my question concerns something that was laid into my copy of The Newcomes - The Illustrated Illustrator, a photo of which is below. Was this a usual insert for this publication? I am guessing it was, but my Monthly Letter makes no mention of it, so I am not certain. Thanks in advance for any info!

This is actually a brochure-type publication that opens up to six pages total. Ardizzone certainly was committed to illustrating The Newcomes, more so than I am committed to reading it. I will get around to that task some day. It is interesting to glimpse his seemingly strong friendship with George Macy.

I believe this was sent along with the LEC Monthly letter as a promo bit. Similar items were sent out for Gill's Hamlet, the 1932 2vol Three Musketters, and Gargantua and Pantagruel. Every once in a while the LEC would send out a specimen text page or illustration with a Monthly Letter to drum up excitement for an upcoming title. I have some very nice examples related to An Icelandic Fisherman, the Grimm Brothers' Fairy Tales, Batouala, Last of the Mohicans, etc.
Macy was an astute marketer.
On a separate, but related topic how do you get that photo into your post? I tried to cut and paste, but to no avail. I'd like to share some examples with the Group.

The short version is: Upload your image to one of the Photo Sharing sites on the web: For years I used PhotoBucket because it was a free site, then they started charging an annual fee and when I didn't pay they never let me re-download years worth of pictures I posted on this site. Now I use Imgur.com-- another free site--but it's not without its faults and I am currently looking around:

I have found the best site for uploading and storing pictures for use in LT threads is Postimage (https://postimages.org/). Images are high quality with lots of pixels, it is easy to use and free.

Ha! I told myself some years ago I'd do that. Vanity Fair, Barry Lyndon and Pendennis, fine (altho Vanity Fair's the only one I might read again). I've never managed to work up much enthusiasm for The Newcomes....
Ardizzone's self-portrait in the last of your photos made me think of the way Edward Lear sometimes sketched himself (albeit without his beard) - a tubby little man kicking up his heels in joy or trepidation at what's happening around him.

I have just ordered iThe Newcomesi/ from an ebay seller without ever intending to read it, although I may dip in to some passages. I love Thackeray in short bursts. It was serialized in twenty-four monthly installments! However, Ardizzone's illustrations, I believe hand colored, are definitely worth having. My copy will include The Illustrated Illustrator so I conclude it was an additional inclusion with the book.
Someone should upload this to the Monthly Letter Google site so others may have it. If no one else does, I will once I receive the set.
Since i am going to separately ask for copies of Monthly Letters i don't have, it is the least I can do for the commonweal.

To tell you the truth, though I fear I am boasting horribly, I think I have even improved on the work of Richard Doyle, the first illustrator. >19 Django6924: That’s exactly why I felt it worthwhile to post that. It’s like I’ve got a secret decoder language to use with friends that flies by the younger generation. My kids can barely read my messages to them on Christmas presents.
