Shared family library

Hi all,

Hope this isn't repeating a regularly asked question but I'm struggling to find out!

I have a home library that my parents regularly borrow from and vice versa, so we wanted a shared catalogue for our two households. Books regularly move between the two homes, and we often add to the shared collection by looking for what's missing from a favoured author - hence wanting the catalogue.

My question is - if I scan/log all of our books, how can my parents access the catalogue?

Thanks in advance,

Chloe.

>1 clo165:

If you only want them to be able to see what's in the catalogue, just give them the URL, which is http://www.librarything.com/catalog/clo165

If you want them to be able to add books or edit information, you will also need to give them the username and password.

To edit, they would need your login and password. Just to browse, it's enough that your catalogue is public and you send them the link

>1 clo165: Since "Books regularly move between the two homes", you definitely want to have them all cataloged in one account; then you can use Collections and/or Tags to indicate where each book is currently located.

So I know I should start a new topic but I can't figure out how to do it! I would like to display my library for browsing but keep the cover view and number of rows and a large size. I set my library up that way but when I share the link it changes back to the list view. Is there a way I can keep it the way I want it? And I would also appreciate learning how to start a new topic. :)
thanks

>6 nonob: There's a 'start new topic' button on the left side on the talk page. When you open it, select a proper group from drop-down menu.

Not sure about cover view. Possibly it's saved if you turn on 'Default style for visitors'. When viewing you catalogue (Your books tab), there a settings button to change display styles.

Looks like you can't make covers-view the default for visitors, it has to be one of the 'one row per book' table views. Instead, check out the "permanent link" at the very bottom of the page after you've gotten the formatting the way you like it. Giving that link to your friends/family instead of your basic 'Your books' link will take them to it in your desired formatting. For example, https://www.librarything.com/catalog.php?view=nonob&offset=0&shelf=shelf... (I think it's the "shelf=shelf" part that makes it come up as covers, instead of "shelf=list" for the table view). Unfortunately it doesn't seem to save the cover display size in the permanent link, though.

Thank you SandraArdnas and Opteryx, that solved my view problem. I'd missed the "permanent link" at the bottom of the page. I appreciate your help. I'm pretty chuffed about the Librarything/Tinycat possibilities for my small club library. The cover's link will be a good browsing the collection tool and the catalog is the bomb! This is a perfect winter #PandemicProject.
