Climate Controlled Storage Facilities

I can rent a climate controlled storage closet from a storage company near my home. 5 feet by 5 feet. They told me that the temperature inside my storage closet would gradually change between 55 degrees F and 80 degrees F throughout the year. They told me that the upper floors have lower humidity but could not tell me the exact humidity numbers. If I put my books into big plastic tubs with lids and leave them there for a year or longer, would they be ok? Is that temperature swing appropriate? What else should I do to ensure that the books are safe in that storage facility for at least a year. Thanks!

That frankly doesn’t sound like climate control.

A non-climate controlled facility around my area has a 20f to 120f swing so that seems about right.

>1 RickFlair: It depends on the books and how long A gradual temp swing in that range is probably okay for most books for a few years. That they can't even give you an idea on the humidity is a little more worrying.

>4 melannen: I think I will just try to find a friend that will allow me to store at their house.

I always put a pack of silica in any box I am going to close up so any moisture will be absorbed. I would look for another storage area that can track the humidity and temp and show you history on their facility.
