To those at FS who have been trying desperately to get in touch with me regarding future title selection:

I’m sorry, I’ve been terribly busy and missed the attempts to connect. I’m still very busy, and I’m told you frequent this board, so I’ll give you just a few to work with for now while I’ve got a free moment.

1. 1985. No, not 1984, although a three-volume set comprised of both Orwell’s 1984 and Burgess’s 1985 with the two parts of 1985 split into two individuated volumes would be an exceptional offering. If you can’t get around to the set, 1985 alone will do, especially if it is bound like you did A Clockwork Orange (with the textured paper feeling like pseudo-leather).
2. Blood Meridian. You already put out The Road, you might as well jump straight from there to McCarthy’s magnum opus. I really, really want you to make it an LE, but don’t, because I’ve got another one for that spot.
3. A Canticle for Leibowitz. Make it an LE and name your price. Yes, that is two American authors in a row. But one is the greatest living American author, and the other has never been given proper publishing treatment given that it is the greatest fix-up novel ever written. Yes, across genres. Yes, that is my standard. It’s me you’ve been calling!
4. The complete diaries of Franz Kafka. My paperback is in tatters and I need a copy that will hold up.

There are many more. I have a whole host of non-fiction titles in subjects from history to philosophy and a lot more fiction across genres and periods. But I am truly short on time, and I know you can’t publish them all. Start there and I’ll be in touch after I whittle down the list for you a little more. Some others here might have some suggestions. No, you shouldn’t value their opinion more than mine. Because it’s me you’ve been calling!

>1 Tom9019:
Don't disagree with either Blood Meridian or Canticle, but definitely not as LEs please. Or, whilst LEs of those are keeping Tom and others happy (with the prospect of them coming out as SEs later on??), maybe some SEs of current LEs, like Madame Bovary and Tristram Shandy to keep us going!
