A Treasury of Mark Twain 1999

This delightful book is perfect in content and size for the bedside table, as it contains 32 entertaining short stories by Mark Twain, just right for reading before drifting off to sleep with a gentle smile and fond memories of the story. Most are under ten pages, but the longest is 45 pages.

The 288 page book is introduced by Roy Blount, and there are 12 full page line drawings by Rod Waters.

It is bound in pale grey-green cloth printed in dark green on all sides with pictures. It is one of the few Folio Society books that does not have a FS colophon on the spine. The endpapers and slipcase (23x15cm.) are dark green.

Copies are available at very reasonable prices on the secondary market.

Ah, that was my first FS book! I paid about 10 Euros for it (shipping from UK to Lithuania included). Then Brexit and Covid came...

Have seen sealed copies on sale for only £9. Much nicer than the later plastic-coated version !

Another lovely review. My volume is from the 2007 8th printing, printed on Caxton Wove paper at St Edmundsbury Press, St Edmunds.

I'm always impressed by the care taken by FS book designers with marrying type to volume - here Goudy, (I'm assuming Goudy Old Style?), designed by the American artist Frederic Goudy who may well have met Twain at the Chicago School of Illustration.
