Private Libraries Association

Apologies if this society is well known to members of this group. It does seem to have a fairly low profile and I thought it might be of interest.

The Private libraries Association ( https://www.plabooks.org ) describes itself on its web site in these words

'Founded in 1956, the Private Libraries Association is an international society of book collectors – collectors of rare books, fine books, single authors, special subjects, and, above all collectors of books for the simple pleasures of reading and ownership.'

The PLA produces a journal - The Private Library - which is always well written and researched. It also produces modestly-priced books about books. (We have just received a copy of the book 'The Wood-Engravings of Blair Hughes-Stanton' by Penelope Hughes-Stanton. A well-written, illustrated and printed cloth-bound hardback book for the princely sum of £10 to members.) The next publication will be the intriguing 2-volume 'Early Private Presses 1730-1900'.
