What a nice collection! Sorry, no 735's in my collection.

No 753 either.

None in my (modest) collection either, I'm afraid. I must say, it's a handsome collection you have and your great-uncle clearly took good care of his books. Thanks for sharing the images.

I would suggest that you occasionally try searching some of the book sites like ABEBOOKS with Limited Editions Club in the publisher field and 735 in the keywords field. You might try this on Bookfinder and ViaLibri also. I noticed that several titles with 445 are currently listed and used this as a test. You will get some false matches (books with 735 pages, etc.), but I did not see too many. The problem is that most of the cheaper listings do not bother to mention the number of the particular book, but then they are usually not in great condition either. You may find condition an issue also. You may find a #735 only to find the condition is poor and not something you would want for your collection. But good luck in your searching.

I think you will find that trying to match a specific number like that for such a large number of books is a very difficult task. You may be able to add to the set of matched #735 but, unless you find an owner of another large group, it will be hard to add many titles. It can be very difficult to fill gaps in a 5 or 10 book set. And then you run into condition issues. If Rutgers had been willing to sell their book, it would have had some type of library markings in and on the book, not to mention other condition issues. I don't mean to discourage you, just show you what you are up against. You might want to consider other options to add to your set.

I checked mine & also came up empty. It certainly doesn't hurt to ask & I wish you luck with this. One thing I discovered is that I had a few duplicate numbers myself, probably because I had bought them in lots, so some were likely from estates like yours.

>1 ErinFromTheOffice: There are 4 #753 titles listed on ABEBOOKS right now. Stories of O. Henry; THE RIVALS: A COMEDY; The Analects of Confucius; and THUS SPAKE ZARATHUSTRA

>8 Bernarrd: the original poster is looking for 735, not 753.

>1 ErinFromTheOffice: also I checked my personal catalog spreadsheet, and there are no 735 numbers on my end.

>12 kermaier:
Well, either 735 is actually the number or, strikingly, there’s a completely separate person looking for 735s in a Facebook group for LEC/HP fans who insists it’s really 735s rather than 753s for them (I assumed it was the same person), so it wasn’t totally in vain in the sense that you might have found something for them. Maybe.

Congrats, I guess, but I hope you’re wrong about the kind of person that hangs out here. What evidence we do have suggests some total strangers have checked their precious collections to try to help you out.

>16 ErinFromTheOffice: One of the distinguishing characteristics that make the antiquarian book world such a pleasant place to spend time in can be summed up in one word: Trust. There are very few businesses where sellers are willing to send buyers items that in some cases are worth thousands or tens of thousands of dollars without first receiving some kind of payment. Likewise, a world where buyers pay the large sums in advance to sellers, trusting that the item is as described, and knowing full well if there is any problem they will get a full refund. There are rare exceptions and bad actors (i.e., Calliban Books in Pittsburgh, 2018)...but they are rare.

There's an old adage: "It takes a skilled carpenter a good amount of time to build a barn, but any jackass can kick it down in a matter of minutes".
