Elizabeth/readingtangent's 2022 ROOTs

Redigerat: sep 17, 2022, 5:35 pm

Hello, Elizabeth M. here, back for my eighth year of ROOTing :). I live in Texas, USA, with my husband of nearly 18 years, and aside from reading, I also like to run, go to concerts, cook, bake, and do jigsaw puzzles.

My favorite genres are historical romance, YA, horror, sci-fi, and comics/graphic novels, but I will try just about anything that sounds interesting.

Last year I started the year with 340 books on my TBR list (not counting all of my unread comic book collections, things I've gotten as gifts, or most of my husband's books). This year I am starting with 343.
This is a vast improvement over the previous year, when I went from 253 TBR to 340 (!!). I acquired around 91 books in 2021, versus 2020's 151, so that helped immensely. Hopefully I can continue the trend of buying fewer.

My official ROOT goal this year is 40, and as usual I will count anything that I acquired prior to January 1st, 2022 as a ROOT.

Happy New Year, and good luck with your goals, everybody!!

Here are my stats as of January 1st, 2022. The first number is how many books I acquired that year (beginning in 2014, which is when I started my spreadsheet) and the second is how many are still waiting TBR.

2015: 69 --> 10

2016: 53 --> 3

2017: 54 --> 7

2018: 101 --> 42

2019: 111 --> 70

2020: 151 --> 101

Welcome back, and good luck with reducing the TBR! My bookbuying was a bit out of control a few years ago, but reining it in a bit has been less hard than I thought (it's also massively improved the quality of the books I do buy, now that I'm forcing myself not to get books just because they're a bargain!).

Here are what the stats are looking like now. The first number is how many books I acquired that year (beginning in 2014, which is when I started my spreadsheet), the second is how many were still waiting TBR on January 1st, 2022, and the third number is how many are left today. (The rest of my ROOTs came from stuff my husband bought, or that I got for Christmas; I still count those :))

2014: 54 --> 0

2015: 69 --> 10 --> 4

2016: 53 --> 3 --> 0

2017: 54 --> 7 --> 6

2018: 101 --> 42 --> 40

2019: 111 --> 70 --> 66

2020: 151 --> 101 --> 92

2021: 91 --> 66 --> 54

We won't talk about 2022 yet. But it's not looking great :/. Ha.

>25 bragan: The answers can be scary! :) It's cool to "zero out" a year, though. I'm hoping to do so for 2015 and 2017 soon, since there are only 10 titles left between them.
