i cannot belive Sarah Paretskyis not mentioned here. I think she is one of the greatest female authors of the genre. V.I Warshawski is her female private detective. they made a movie with Kathlyn Turner a few years back.

I love Sara Paretsky, one of my favorite authors. I heard her speak at a mystery luncheon right after 9/11. She spoke about freedom of speech and not giving up rights to make ourselves safe. Not the same talk as the other authors.
