Book selections for the next CBC "Canada Reads" were announced on the radio today.

Children of My Heart (Ces Enfants de ma vie) by Gabrielle Roy
Natasha and Other Stories by David Bezmozgis
Stanley Park by Timothy Taylor
The Song of Kahunsha by Anosh Irani
Lullabies for Little Criminals by Heather O’Neill
Touchstones for all five titles, I don't own any of these, but some other LTers are off to a good start. The system balked at a touchstone for Heather O'Neill, something to do with the " ' " in O'Neill I suppose.

(Stanley Park) by (Timothy Taylor) is, by far, one of the best books I've read in the last two years. Even though I've got a known bias towards all things BC, you don't have to be in love with the west coast to get this book under your skin. If you're even half-way a foodie, there's a great storyline to appeal; if you've ever thought that the whole contemporary food craze has gone too far and if bound to fizzle in a putrid pool of organic rhubarb coulis, you'll like it even more! And if you've ever wondered why crazy-homeless-people are the way they are, there's grist here for your mental mill. I have given this book to so many friends around the world, I ought to be getting a share of Taylor's royalties!

I have read "Ces enfants de ma vie" by Roy, and will have to dig in the basement to see if I still have a copy. I enjoyed the book, and will be interested to see what others have to say.
I don't have any of the other books, but I'll watch for special offers at the bookstore!

I've read all 5 books, and The Song of Kahunsha is by far my favourite. I am looking forward to the debates.

Heather O'Neill often contributes to CBC Radio One's 'Wiretap' program hosted by Jonathan Goldstein.
It's broadcast Sundays at 1:00 pm and Fridays at 8:30 pm.
Her readings on that show alone would tempt me to buy her book.

Did you listen to the readings and watch the slideshow? Very nice.

Thanks, Kathrynnd.
Great link.
She had one on last Sunday's program (I think it will be repeated on Friday's program) about 'grandfather.'

I bought Lullabies for Little Criminals on Wednesday but have not read it yet. I hadn't known it was chosen for Canada Reads though. I haven't followed this show or even heard of it until recently.
I will be looking out for the others, especially the one by Anosh Irani as I adored his The Cripple and His Talismans
