This article may be of interest to the group: The Art Book's Last Stand? from the September, 2006 Art in America, by Christopher Lyon of Prestel. (About once a quarter, I need to round up the art magazines that threaten to take over the house. This issue is from before this group was started. When I remembered it, I thought to check whether it is available online and thankfully it is.)

Also, Why Art Publishing is in Crisis from the May, 2006 Apollo, by John Nicoll of Frances Lincoln.

There is a bit of an us vs. them here, where the them is the art book consumer, i.e., us.

Very nice articles. Thanks for the addition. I did not know about this history. It makes sense. I see the demise now that it's been pointed out. What about the future of such sites as lulu.com? Perhaps they could serve as future outlets...and even expand possibilities. Perhaps a metamorphosis of the art book?
