Anyone getting a DK?

How'd I like to see one to compare, but for the moment I'll stick with the K2. Especially as how I just had to replace my computer.....

Maybe I'll settle for an Oberon cover and consider it a bargain. The new red ginkgo looks terrific.

Personally, AuntMarge, no way. I have a feeling the larger screen will mean a piece of hardware that's larger and heavier for my pocketbook, and I don't have any problem with the screen-size of the K1 and K2.

I've used mEdge covers for my K1 and K2, and for K2 I got the less expensive, non-leather cover, which I like quite well. (I wasn't going cheap on K2; it's just that I decided to avoid leather if possible, feeling sorry for the cows.)

I'd like a slightly larger screen, but the overall size and weight of the DX would concern me. Even more, reports from KindleBoards are that the screen on the DX is even darker than on the K2, which (in my case, at least) was darker than the K1.

I use the Amazon K2 cover, which is quite serviceable, but I really, really WANT a beautiful cover for it. I'll probably just hem & haw till the K3 comes out and never get to it.

I've got 2 on order and just received e-mail that they are on the way . . .

I am trying them out for a work application - to deliver updates on health information to our clinical teams in our children's hospital . . .

Wow, the medical thing sounds like a great application. I hope it works out for you.

As for me, I've never found myself wishing that my screen was bigger, so I'll stay with my K1 for the time being. I like the fact that it's small.

4> Now that's a worthwhile reason for getting DX, and the larger screen size may really be helpful in a health-care setting. I'm assuming, though, that you're not including any patient-specific information, because I definitely wouldn't trust these devices for network security.

I still have a K1. I would like something for reading work-related pdfs, but I would need color for that, so I will stick with the smaller version of the kindle for leisure reading. k4k

We have 2 thoughts for applications in a health care setting:

1 - Patients - with infection control issues, print books are problematic. We are thinking that we will get several DKs and load with 1) recreational reading that is age appropriate and 2) patient and family centered health information

2 - Clinical Team - we hear 3 things: don't have time to read, even if had time, I don't know how to find info and 3rd i read but no one else is reading the same stuff. So what we are thinking is that we will consult with specialty units like pediatrics oncology and ask what do you think is worth reading, what do you want to be kept up to date in and what do you need for patients. We will then create a custom news feed and load the info to the DK

Of course, identifiable patient info will NEVER be downloaded. Think of it as more of a CNN Headline HEALTH news feed PLUS must read chapters, journal articles, research, protocols, etc

I don't see the DK in my future. The K2 is fine for now, especially since I learned how to download PDF files to the K2. I think the DK was intended for textbooks, and I'm way past that stage now. I'd like to know how the students at Princeton, who were given free DKs by Amazon, evaluated them.

I looked at the DK and really thought about it because of the PDF feature, I use a lot of PDF's. But I decided that until they have color, a bigger Kindle just isn't worth the price. There are some technologies just around the corner that may make color e-ink a possibility in the near future so give it a couple years I think. Besides they STILL DON'T have folders or better sorting options or the ability to hide certain books. Don't know why they won't put that in.

I would have to say no....I have my precious K1 which I just think is built better and I have a slimmer K2. Love love love them both. But a lot of the review books I get are dead tree versions anyway. I use them both for personal reasons. I also have two sonys and another kind that I NEVER use. The DK is out for me...it's just not worth it. I do however need a new easy to use but nice digital camera !
