Non-novels in NaNoWriMo

I am planning to start a book on Nov. 1, but I'm not writing a novel. It's more like a set of essays. After checking the official site, it doesn't look like my book would qualify. But I want to join in on the forum. Would that still be okay?

I don't think anyone would object at all! The more the merrier!

And I think the main site defines novel as any lengthy work of fiction, but even if you're writing non-fiction I'm sure you'd still be welcome at write-ins and event parties. Everyone I've met through NaNo has been encouraging of other writers no matter what they're writing.

#1 -- You're not alone! On the NaNo forums, there's a group called NaNo Rebels who write other than fiction. The first thread on that forum ("Welcome to the Rebellion") has some helpful info. Go ahead, join the official site, participate here -- whatever!
