In '08 I read 101 books, this year I'm at a whopping 31. I've been lazy about my reading obviously. So, when I saw this group I mentioned it to my mother, we share the library but I maintain it online. She challenged me to try the 10 10 10 with her. As in ten books in ten categories in 2010. She has had a medium reading year and crossed 100 about a week ago. Sigh, I think she is totally going to kick my butt in this challenge. Anyway these are my categories. The titles are taken from episode names of the tv show Supernatural. Category lists below and http://www.listsofbests.com/list/68185

A kindred spirit! My 60mins on Thursdays is inviolable. So here's the real question.... are you Sam girl or a Dean girl?

I love The Big Sleep and I whole-heartedly recommend it, such a classic.
I just finished The Nymphos of Rocky Flats and I have to say it was better than what I expected.
Regarding the Maximum Ride books... have you read the books they were based on When the Wind Blows and The Lake House?

13wolf_babe
dec 2, 2009, 5:12 pm

Dean, it's all about Dean although I take Sam's side a lot when they fight, that's probably because I'm nerdy like Sam.

I have not read When the Wind Blows or The Lake House but I've heard a lot of people say that they don't really affect Maximum Ride except for the premise. Have you read them? What did you think?

14VictoriaPL

I'm a Dean girl too....

I have read both of them and I like them more than the Maximum Ride books. Maybe because I read them first....

I adore Supernatural!

You have some great candidates for your challenge -- I look forward to seeing what you think of Coraline and The Historian especially because they are among my favorites.

Woot! Another Supernatural fan. Coraline is probably going to be my first in the Monster Movie category. I liked the movie and have heard the book is better.

As of today, Dean's Birthday, I've completed 6 books and have started two others.

The Outsiders, 4 1/2 stars, one of my new favorites
Coraline, 4 stars, better than the movie really glad I didn't read it first
The Hard Goodbye, 3 stars, good but I'm so familiar with the movie it was a little boring
Postgrad, 3 stars, fluff quick read
Percy Jackson 1: The Lightning Thief, 4 stars, great book
King Lear, 2 stars, a disappointment, a bit like reading a soap opera script

Finished reading Never Hit a Jellyfish with a Spade today and I give it four stars. I really liked it. Mostly it was just silly, funny commentary on general life stuff but occasionally it had a real pearl of wisdom. Of course even the more practical and useful advice was delivered with wit. This was totally worth reading and I would recommend it to just about anyone with a decent sense of humor.
