Has anyone read Fran Leibowitz? Written in the 70's by a social-climbing New Yorker, they are without question, the most hilarious books I've ever read. Social Studies is better than Metropolitan Life but both are worth checking out. I read the first one on my front porch at 2am and I can assure you my dead silent nieghborhood was not anything like as amused as I was. She's the single most qoutable writer ever!! Right ahead of Florence King, who should be memorized by everyone!!

I read Social Studies when it came out; I got it after seeing her on a talk show (I think it may have been Letterman). She is exactly like her writing - sarcastic, smart and very New York.
Have your read anything by Cynthia Heimel? I first read her columns in the Village Voice in the eighties. I still have her classic "The Boyfriend Crunch" tacked to my bulletin board. Sex Tips for Girls is a collection of those columns - a bit rewritten to give the book some flow - but still a good picture of a New York woman of the eighties.

This is a surprising title, but I just finished the Pluto Files by Neil DeGrasse Tyson and found it entertaining. While you do learn a lot about Pluto and the solar system, Tyson includes the public reaction to the whole controversy, cartoons, song lyrics, letters. Very amusing.
On a much more traditonal note, I finally read The Cat-Nappers by P. G. Wodehouse. The more of a reader you are, the more you'll enjoy this since so much of the humor is twisted literary references.

marguax, I am so sorry I'm just seeing this. I need to come around more often. Yes, I did see where he's got that new one coming out and I'm looking forward to it. I love his silly sense of humor. I still have a couple of his I haven't read yet, so trying to read everything he's got out there. My favorite so far as been Fool. What about you?
