Finding BookCrossers on LT

It's nice to discover BookCrossers on LT so I'm going to add an opt-in list of people who want their screen names for Bookcrossing to be listed alphabetically here on LT.
I'm doing this because so many people have different screen names on both sites. If you want in on this list, just let me know on this thread or by private message. The list follows:

#9> tqd is my sort-of initials. (I don't actually have a middle name, so I was given "Q" as a middle nickname in High School. 20+ years on, and I still answer to Q!) But for LT, I did rather hope that it'd be a catalogue of all the books in our house, not just mine, and wookiebender is the family name. But 90% of the books in the house are mine, and I stalled on the cataloguing just as I reached Mr TQD's books, so my hope was slightly in vain!

I will finish cataloguing all the books in the house, but it may not be done this year...

If Mr T has about 100 books and you have catalogued 12 already, you should be able to finish the job by year end if you can do just five a day!

I like the idea of Q as a fake middle initial. I, too, have NMI so I used to use that space on forms to identfy junkmail sources.

1. On your profile page, go to "edit profile".
2. Scroll down to "Also On".
3. Select "BookCrossing".
4. Enter your BookCrossing screen name in the indicated slot.
5. Click save changes.

Now, when you go back to your profile page, you'll find a link to your Bookcrossing page right on your LT profile page. Voila!

In case you haven't guessed, I'm trying to create a tighter link between LTers and Bookcrossers. :)

By the way, be sure that you enter the BCID of each of your books in the indicated book details slot when registering books here at LT. This link will take you from your book here on LT directly to that book's page on Bookcrossing. If you're not sure how to do this, just ask me.

I am soffitta1 on both sites. I must admit, I have been slack with entering BCIDs here, will try to do it more often.

How so, Squeaky? What, exactly, do you see the nature of that "tighter link" to be?

I must say that, although I have entered BCIDs here, I don't see much connection between my library here and my registered books there.

I'm not sure now. In the past, I had been hoping for a connection between Tim and BC, but admin changes at BC sort of scuttled that. In the meantime, I guess I'd like to see more Bookcrossers become LT members and vice versa because those two are my favorite book websites.

Question about entering the BCID's here on LT. I believe I entered the one I have for the book in the correct spot I was just wondering where does the link show up so that it takes you to the BC page?

It will do so from your catalog page if you have selected BCID as one of your columns. It will also do so from the work page called "Details" if you scroll down to the BCID number.

In either case, then just click on "BCID". That takes you directly to the book's profile page on Bookcrossing.

It's nice to find so many Bookcrossers here on LT!

I was thinking that it might be good to post your BookMooch name here also. I know I sometimes (very rarely, though) get negative remarks about books on BookMooch that have BookCrossing labels. If we can friend each other on BookMooch, we'd be receiving more BookCrossing books via Bookmooch. Just an idea...

I just want to welcome the BookCrossers that are new to LibraryThing. If you haven't discovered this feature yet, look though it now. You'll love it!

It's easy to use.
1. Click on "by location" (top right).
2. Enter your zip code or address or city into the search box.
3. Click on search.
4. Voila! The list of Bookcrossing zones is to your right. The list of Little Free Libraries (which you can use to release BookCrossing books!) is to your left.

If you identify any that are not listed, feel free to add them so other BookCrossers can find them. The page on which to add them is here. Categorize them as "Little Libraries" and check off "BookCrossing" and/or whatever kind of "little library" it is.

Another thing you might be interested to know...

You are welcome to list your BookCrossing Meet-ups on the LibraryThing Local page.

To do that,

1. Click on the "local" tab.
2. Find the venue you are using for your meet-up by clicking on "by name" on the search box.
3. Click "search".
4. On the venue page, click "add an event" (middle of your screen).
5. Fill in the information boxes.
6. Click "add an event".

If your venue is not listed, add it here, being sure to check off the correct venue type (bookstore, other places - such as a coffee shop or other public restaurant, etc.).

Thanks for this! You've reversed my LT and BC names, according to your legend, but they are similar enough that I doubt it matters. (LT first, BC second. It's just the *2*- that's for my LT name)

I have a question regarding the BCID's. What happens when I enter a BCID for a book, that has been, for example (but very likely when it comes to 1001-books), with soffitta1 too?
The BCID is a unique number, do you think that'll give any problems?

Not at all!

You will both have the same access to that book's BookCrossing journal directly on the BookCrossing website. That's the beauty of that feature.

A bit more info about BCID's:

They are unique, meaning that one book may not have more than one BCID. In other words, you may not register soffitta1's book, but you certainly may make a journal entry with the BCID that already belongs to that book, and you may read other journal entries for that book.

I do make JE's BookCrossing when receiving, reviewing or sending on a book. What I wanted to know is, if there would be a problem if I entered the unique BCID for a book I have a listing for LT and any other BC-member that lists that same book with the same BCID.
I took soffitta1 as an example, because we happen to read each others books from time to time, organising / taking part in the same bookboxes...

Goodreads using BCID was a problem for quite some time, at least it was about a year or 2 ago. That's why I stopped using BCID's there altogether.

There would be no problem. Just list the BCID of your book in hand.

If another member receives that same book later (for example, you mail it to another person), that second member would list the same BCID number because it's the same book with it's own unique BCID.

Both of you would then be able to click on the BookCrossing link here on LT to view the journal entries to that same book.

I actually just clicked on a BCID I entered for one of my books and when I clicked the BCID it took me to bookcrossing and said that it is unable to locate the content I requested. Is that normal?

Is that normal?

No. That is not normal. Either of two things is happening.

1. The BCID number was incorrectly entered.

2. It was a BookCrossing website computer error. I've recently found, even when I'm only on the BookCrossing website that a BCID will often send me that same error message that a BCID cannot be found. Then, if I enter the same BCID number another way (for example, under a different kind of search), the journal for that BCID will come up. It's weird. I think it's a glitch in BC's system.
