I absolutely adore the author, L.J. Smith! She wrote the Vampire Diaries, I believe, but I enjoyed reading the Night World collections the best. Any other fans out there?

I have not read the NightWorld series, but I have read all of the Vampire Diaries books. I LOVE them. I actually kind of hate the show though. So much more happens in the books!

I've read The Vampire Diaries and enjoyed them. I also read Night World and liked that as well. I ventured in to The Secret Circle series as well and I think that was my favourite of her series, but those are the only ones I've read. I believe she has a few more books out there as well.

She's also written the Forbidden Game series. I am a big Nightworld fan. It's been so long waiting for book #10. I've been waiting for 15 years or so now. She seems to set a date and doesn't stick to it. However she has written some new Vampire Diaries books, which is good, but not the series that I love.

I enjoyed her first VD series, but the second one is very different in tone. Too much voyeuristic torture and abuse, weak characterization, and poor pacing. The sexualization of victimization gives my feminist hackles a rise.

I recently read the first volume of Night World, and I loved it. Though I am desperate to see more of Ash now... I'm waiting for the second volume at the Library.

LOVE L.J. Smith! She's outstanding, really. I have to agree with you, Maidas9 -- the Night World series was amazing - I prefer it over The Vampire Diaries at some points, but they're equally awesome.

I have mixed feelings about this author. The first books I read of hers were the Vampire Diaries and absolutely loved them. Then came the NightWorld series. Most of the stories in those were decently written and held my interest, save the third book of the group, at which point my interest started to dwindle a bit. The most recent work I have read by her is her Dark Visions books, which fascinated me. She had some great characters in these stories. All in all, L.J. Smith most certainly holds my interest, and doesn't really seem to get bogged down in the 'same old stuff'.

I'm totally with you. She is an amazing writer. I wish that one day I could be as good as her.

VikingGypsy, what are the Dark Visions books? I've never heard of them.

ashberry, The Dark Visions books are a trilogy of books about a group of 'psychic' teens (one who is a psychic vampire). They are all placed into this 'school' for psychics to learn to develop and strengthen their powers. The stories are basically of their journey and adventures in trying to uncover the secrets behind the psychic institute, once they figure out a lot is being hidden from them. She has very good character development in these stories, and quite an imagination for some of it. I bought this as a single book with all three stories in it: The Strange Power, The Possessed, and The Passion. It's definitely a good read, and if you like L.J. Smith, I don't think you would be disappointed!
