- Beskrivning:
- The Guild Complex is an independent, not-for-profit cultural center that serves as a forum for literary cross cultural expression, discussion and education in combination with other arts. We believe that the arts are instrumental in defining and exploring the human experience while encouraging participation by artist and audience alike in changing the conditions of our society. Through its culturally inclusive, primarily literary programming the Guild Complex provides the vital link that connects communities, artists and ideas.
In 1989, the Guild Complex began as a separate, not-for-profit entity continuing the programming of Guild Books. Proud of the traditions of literary excellence and community-based events established by Guild Books, the Guild Complex carries on this legacy through our provocative, eclectic and thought-provoking programs. In 1991, we settled in Wicker Park and expanded the scope of the organization to include Tia Chucha Press. The Complex has twice been selected as a model literary center by the National Endowment for the Arts.
Since its formation, the Guild Complex has established itself, in the words of the Illinois Arts Council, as Chicago's premiere literary center.

Palabra Pura promotes literary expression in more than one tongue through a monthly bilingual poetry reading featuring Chicano and Latino artists. With an aim to foster dialogue through literature in Chicago and beyond, each evening pairs a local poet with a visiting writer along with an open mic to engage the interaction of diverse voices, ideas, and aesthetics. The readings are held the third Wednesday of every month (except August and December) throughout 2008.
