Hailed as a regional destination and downtown Vancouver's sparkling gem, this new 83,000 square foot main library was made possible through voter-approved bonds and philanthropy. Land for the building was contributed by developers George and Lance Killian, and Vancouver residents Jan and Steve Oliva provided a major contribution that significantly lowered the bond costs for Vancouver residents. The building opened to the public on July 17, 2011.
Come and take advantage of the library's many unique features, which include:
•Free internet access at library computers and via wifi
•Public meeting rooms (see information above)
•Study spaces and reading areas scattered throughout the building
•Atrium Coffee Corner by Thatcher's Coffee (opening August 2011)
•Used books for sale at the lobby BookNook operated by Friends of Vancouver Community Library
•Teen Central featuring computers, video games and a young adult book and magazine collection
•Early Learning Center, a “play and learn” environment targeted to ages birth to five
•Fifth-floor reading room with comfortable seating and a fireplace
