This volume presents, without attribution, the first two volumes of ‘The Romance of Lust’, one of the greatest classics of Victorian erotic literature. The erotic literature genre contains many examples of this somewhat deceptive practice, although that scarcely makes it less reprehensible. No indication is given of its provenance, or of the existence of the other two volumes of the original. Even the title proves less than adequate, as the tale really concerns the education of its well-endowed young male hero, a process that involves many doting females, some closely related, and most of them very experienced indeed. The story contains a wealth of amatory episodes, including chastisement and voyeurism, and indeed this half of the complete work is relatively free from the taint of repetition which often pervades the genre. The original work itself stands well clear of its peers, as a true classic ( )
