I did not really care for this book because I felt that the illustrations were cluttered and made the book seem overwhelming to me. However, I did think the book had a humorous tone to it, especially since they did not know the guinea pigs were pregnant and the same with the rabbit in the end. I do not think I would share this in the classroom because the addition seemed all over the place and I'm not sure the students would enjoy it. ( )

The book shows how Guinea Pigs add up after two are put in the same cage. Then those have more and the classroom has too many the students start to adopt all the guinea pigs until none are left. The book is colorful and the picture have math all the pages. The book teaches students about addition, subtraction and could use multiplication of the guinea pigs. I would use this book when students are trying to learn addition and then to subtraction. ( )

Predictable but enjoyable. ( )

This book has a little of everything, mainly showing mathematics throughout. The guinea pigs had babies, so they constantly added up and once the population became too much to handle, they subtracted as they were adopted. It also rhymes throughout. ( )

If a fun way to introduce math is what you're after, this is the book for you! A cute, rhyming tale of addition from one to twenty. And what are we adding? Guinea pigs, of course!

"Then -- uh-oh -- eight weeks later,
five pets have fifteen more.
We count them -- one to twenty;
help -- guinea pigs galore!"

After the teacher finds homes for all of the guinea pigs, there's still more fun to be had when the class gets a new pet - a rabbit!

Simple, playful, watercolor and pen illustrations are complemented by a comic font. Cute! ( )
