Med Equal Rites så är Pratchett uppe i nästan fullgod standard. Visst, Osynliga universitetet leds fortfarande inte av Mustrum, och det finns en massa onämnbara saker i världarna bortom (som förresten demonerna i Dragon age är förvånansvärt lika), och mormor Vädervax har inte riktigt nått sitt rätta format än – men hon är med, och hon är bra.
Annars handlar det om Eskarina, »Esk«, Skivvärldens första kvinnliga trollkarl (hon skulle fötts som den åttonde sonen till en åttonde son, men det blev inte riktigt så). Hon föddes i vilket fall i Bad Ass, vilket gjorde att hon hade mormor Vädervax i faggorna, och har man lyckats övertyga henne om att man borde få utbildas till trollkarl så kommer snart trollkarlarna också snart gå med på det.
Fast egentligen, trots att Skivvärlden ännu inte är riktigt färdigformad och alla fuskfossil inte ännu är på plats, så är det något annat, viktigare, som hamnat på plats: stilen, med alla småskämt och underligheter som inte har med något att göra men som dyker upp ett litet tag ändå. Och de återkommande inslagen är redan på plats, i alla fall Dödden och Biblotekarien (ook!).

Fossils were well known on the Discworld, great spiraled shells and badly constructed creatures that were left over from the time when the Creator hadn’t really decided what He wanted to make and was, as it were, just idly messing around with the Pleistocene.
One thing the water couldn’t do was gurgle out of the ornamental gargoyles ranged across the roof. This was because the gargoyles wandered off and sheltered in the attics at the first sign of rain. They held that just because you were ugly didn’t mean you were stupid.
The frills were getting to her, they gave pink a bad name.

They got it absolutely right and it would probably have important implications for the universe if it hadn't, next time the University flooded, been completely washed away.
