Old Mrs. Johnson lives alone in the forest and loves to knit sweaters and mittens for her grandchildren in the city. One day, when returning from a visit to the city, her solitude comes to an end when her mischievous forest neighbours reveal themselves in a delightfully colourful fashion. Who took her yarn, and what have they done with it? The colourful mystery is solved when the birds, rabbits, snakes, trees and other dwellers of Mrs. Johnson's forest neighbourhood are seen playing with the yarn. I enjoyed this story, but it was definitely not my favorite picture book I have read so far. I felt like it was a little simple, but I liked how the humans connected with the animals. I don't generally like books that make animals act not like animals, so that was hard for me, but it is a common theme in kids books so most kids probably like it.

Mischief in the Forest is a charming little picture book about a lonely grandmother who learns to come home to the forest around her. It is a book that encourages children to start friendships in the world around them, whether they live in a city, a desert, a forest, or a field.

It is simultaneously touching, sweet, and silly, and beautifully illustrated by Stephanie McMillan. (

I haven't read a story book in quite a long time (not being a kid or having any), so getting this in my Friends of PM Press package was a treat. As much as I dislike Derrick Jensen, this book was very cute. (

)
