Written for children but also exciting enough to keep an adult's interest. Beth and Patrick travel to Viking times to find a Sunstone. While they are there, they get to experience firsthand what they've learned in history class. They meet Erik the Red and Leif Eriksson. They also get to experience a bit about how Christianity was viewed in Greenland at the time. ( )

Adventure Book For Your Kids

I am always looking for good fun books that kids will enjoy and want to read and with this book Voyage with the Vikings The Imagination Station book 1 by Marianne Hering and Paul McCusker I have found just that. It is also a series so it will keep your kids busy reading for awhile. I like the fact that the book has adventure, history and is a Christian book that you don't have to worry about kids reading. I think the kids will love the adventure and not even realize they might be learning about history too in this book.

Beth wants to show her cousin Patrick the Imagination Station so they go to see Mr Whittaker's. He says the station isn't working, but when the two step in, it starts to work. A letter appears and it says Albert is trapped and they have to find a Viking sunstone. Beth and Patrick want to help so they take the Imagination Station back in time to the Vikings to find the sunstone. Will Beth and Patrick be able to find the sunstone, retrieve it and get back to the Station and home? Will Leif Erikkson help them find it or will his Dad Erik the Red harm them? Will they be able to get the sunstone and help Albert? You will have to read the book to find out.

I enjoyed this book even at my age. I think the quest will be great fun for your kids and they will want to read this book and the rest of them too. It is a great book for kids age 6 to 10 they will really enjoy reading this book. ( )

I recently received Voyage with the Vikings from Tyndale house to read and review. This is the first book in the Imagination Station series. The imagination station is a time machine that a local inventor has at his workshop. The machine transports the children back in time to Greenland in the year 1000 during the time of the Vikings. They learn a lot as they work together to find a mysterious item called the sandstone that they must retrieve before going back home. The book shows how doing the right thing may be hard, but it is always the right choice. The book ends with another mystery that must be solved which leads into the next book of the series. The other books in the series are: Attack at the Arena (book 2), Peril in the Palace (book 3), and Revenge of the Red Knight (book 4). This series is recommended for children ages 7 and up.

I really enjoyed reading Voyage with the Vikings. This series would be great for a child to read on his own or to read it together as a family. The plot was laid out well and the mystery makes you desire more. I thought the ending was great in that it led to another mystery to be solved in the next book. The books not only teach history, but they also teach good moral principles too. I would highly recommend this series to anyone with children 7 and up. This would also be a great series to encourage kids who are not excited about reading. I think it would keep their attention and show them that reading can be fun!

**I received a complimentary copy of this book from Tyndale House Publishers in an exchange for an honest review. ( )

Mr Whitaker has done it again! For years he has been tinkering on the Imagination Station and sharing it with kids of all ages in his Ice Cream Shop Whit's End! Now kids 7 and Up can take a ride on The Imagination Station since a series for younger kids has been released, starting with "Voyage With The Vikings" and "Attack At The Arena".

Written for early readers, ages 7 and up, the new series features the virtual reality device, the Imagination Station, which is one of the major plot devices used in the Adventures in Odyssey radio series. Nobody knows the inner workings of the mysterious device, invented by Odyssey's Mr. Whittaker, but with a push of a button, it launches users back in time to experience historical events in-person.

In this new series of books Patrick and his cousin Beth go on a series of trips into the past where they learn about history, who Eric the Red was, have props that only Whit knows they need and have to find an artifact to bring home with them. In Voyage of the Vikings your kids will learn about the Vikings, how they lived, what their society was like and more.

Each of The Imagination Station books are $4.99 and could easily be added to your homeschool, church or school library at a great price! Other books coming out are: Revenge Of The Red Knight (15th Century England & the Crusades) and Peril In the Palace (China & Kublai Khan). Get the first three books in this series for $14.97 - what a great Easter Basket addition!

My thoughts: This series of books will be a wonderful addition to any beginning reader's library. Due to some of theme's in the books (the Roman Arena) you may want to read through or at least scan through before you read the book with your younger children (say 5/6 and up) as there is mention of violence and sacrifice. You may want to use this as an opportunity to read WITH your children during family devotions, before school starts, in the car, etc - just be aware of your child's emotional maturity and that they will have questions for you.

Families familiar with Focus on the Family’s wildly popular Adventures in Odyssey series of audio adventures will be thrilled by the release of a new series of ‘ready-for-chapters’ style books that will spur emerging readers on towards reading fluency. Voyage with the Vikings is the first in this new series of short chapter books (rated at a 1.7 Flesch-Kincaid grade level) that follows cousins Beth and Patrick in their time-traipsing adventures in the Imagination Station.

Filled with non-stop adventure, the cousins’ adventures take them to Greenland where they meet the historic figures Erik the Red and Leif Eriksson in the year 1000 A.D. After my daughter (7) read this chapter book, she dug out the “V” volume of our encyclopedias to learn more about Vikings, added Erik and Leif to her timeline notebook, and visited the book website to really dig into the topic. It was a delight to see her so excited about a book! Homeschooling families looking for an easy reader to ignite an interest in their children about Vikings should definitely put this title on their list!

This is also a great way to engage reluctant readers; the book doesn’t allow for any pauses in the action, it’s one exciting event after another, keeping young readers engaged and on their toes. After reading the book there is a puzzle in the back to solve. The resulting secret code can be redeemed at the book website for a free Adventures In Odyssey recording – a bonus my Odyssey loving daughter greatly enjoyed.

As a bonus, these titles are extremely affordable; they are great for any adventure-loving boy or girl. My daughter INSISTS that I give this title five stars.
