I found the book to be quite slow and boring, but as it progressed I slowly became more interested in it. It is a good set up for the final novel, but I expected a lot more out of it. After hearing bad reviews about this book from a girl who I often get book requests from at the book store, I was hesitant to pick it up. But, this book was not the worst book I have read, and I would suggest this series to people nonetheless. Just maybe not the second book of the series. A few tidbits of information important to the plot were given out, but other than those few tidbits, I found most of this book did not need to happen at all. One or two chapters could have prepared you for the third book easily, instead of this entire book. Three stars out of five. Could have been better, could have been worst. But not my worst read so far this summer. Okay, first of all, I wanna say I like the covers of these books, because one I think they're cool, and two it makes it super-easy to see which order to read them in. That said, I've been looking at this one and it bothers me. There's way more glass flying around than could fit into that hole her hand made, and where is the glass from the smaller hole? Tsk, tsk, it doesn't add up. But bonus point for the outfits mostly matching what she wears in the book I guess? I liked this one too. Okay, going from one POV to two in the next book is kinda sketchy, but it did make sense. It was only a few times I had a hard time keeping up with who we were following, and that was mostly during the second half at the book, especially when the chapters kept getting shorter and shorter. Though, seeing Ky's perspective was a bit annoying, because I feel that a lot of what we got to know about him was just things Cassia had already told us in book one, or figured out in book one, and now he just came along to confirm them or sort of rewrite history (idk, to me a love isn't purer or better just because it was love at first sight, you know, it doesn't have to be changed to be like that). That's a bit annoying. I also feel like we might get a real love triangle in the next book and please please please no don't do that. I understand that Ky is jealous, I do, and I understand that Cassia thinks about what could have been and misses Xander since he is her best friend ... BUT PLEASE NO MORE THAN THAT. The last pages, like the last ten or so, felt INCREDIBLY rushed. It seemed the book was setting us up for some drama with the whole "only two people can go in the boat"-thing, but nothing really came from it. All the dialogue in the last bit felt like it just stated all the things we needed to know before the book was wrapped, instead of being more "organic". And then it suddenly jumped several MONTHS into the future during the last page, which, eh, was even weirder. Given that book three is five hundred pages long I assume that it's gonna take a while to wrap things up, and I assume some of it could have happened in this one.
