This book is about Jane Goodall when she was a child. When she was younger she developed a love for nature, especially animals, she dreamed about working with animals one day. This would be a great book for a Language Arts class and maybe even a science class when they are discussing animals. It teaches a good lesson about if you have a passion for something you can achieve that in the future. ( )

Me...Jane, is filled with beautiful illustrations about a girl who came to fulfill her dreams in helping animals. I would use this book to see how women have contributed to sciences in helping animals. The book also used scientific language with illustrations. That would be helpful for children who are ELL or who are struggling readers. This book also helps, children see that women can also follow their dreams so that one day they can too can make a difference. Within the illustrations of the book there are also scientific steps and questions that sometimes scietics ask when they want to know more about something that interests them. I like how they show Jane has a notebook to record her finding making this a connection in the classroom. ( )

Everyone knows Jane Goodall and the many accomplishments and contributions she has made during her life, but she was once a young girl who had a dream and a love for animals. What I love most about this book is that it doesn't focus much on the adult life of Jane Goodall but more on her life growing up as a young girl. I think it is important for young children to see figures like themselves at the same stage they are at in life. It helps shows them the power they have, and I think it shows them the many things they can do and be when they grow older. I loved this book so much and think it one that all children can relate to and find inspiration from. ( )

A story about Jane Goodall as a child. This children's book does not focus on Jane's accomplishments as an adult, but instead on her interests as a curious young girl. I think this perspective is especially valuable for young people to see themselves in influential figures shoes. This book shows that hard-work and strong motivation can make your dreams come true. I absolutely love the visual ipact that the pictures had on me in this book. Throughout the book the pictures are illustrations of a young Jane Goodall with her stuffed animal monkey. The last page is an actual photo of Jane, reaching out and touching a real baby chimpanzee. Truely beautiful! ( )

This Caldecott Honor book by Patrick McDonnell will inspire young readers to chase their own dreams. With it's beautiful ink and watercolor illustrations and simple text, it tells the story of Jane Goodall, mother of the world's chimpanzee's, and how she spent her childhood learning about and being a part of nature until she was old enough to travel to Kenya in 1960 and live in the Kenyan jungle with the chimpanzees. This book is a great addition to any elementary classroom or home library and will inspire not only an inquiry intoJane Goodall's amazing life and work with the endangered chimps of Africa, but it may also inspire a child to do some good for our planet and it's creatures.
