This is an odd picture book. The illustrations are darling but I can't grasp the objective of this text. I imagine it would spark conversation about patience and hospitality. However I don't know students would see past his abrupt blurting. This has a similar personality to Mo Willems Pigeon series, but it's not quite there. ( )

The most metatextual picture-book yet from Melánie Watt - creator of such hilarious characters as Scaredy Squirrel and Chester (the cat) - You're Finally Here! answers that age old question: what do the characters in our books do, when we're not there reading about them? The answer? They WAIT, of course, and wonder what's taking us so long. As the garrulous lapine narrator of You're Finally Here! informs the reader, they get bored 'up to their ears,' and fume at our rudeness. When we finally arrive, they dance with joy, and then demand to know where we've been...

Although I don't think that this title would work very well as a read-aloud for story-hour, in a one-on-one situation, I think children will find it quite amusing. I know I did, and appreciated the aggravated little bunny's clever breakdown of his emotional state, complete with a paneled progression, and lots of amusing examples. Melánie Watt's characters like to make lists (Scaredy Squirrel, anyone?), and to take control of the narrative (Chester!), and this little bunny does both! ( )

A rabbit alternates between excitement that "you" have arrived and hurt over what took you so long to get here. After asking the reader to promise to always be there for him, the rabbit becomes distracted with some phone calls he receives and quickly forgets about the reader. Young listeners will delight in listening to the one-sided conversation from this rather manic bunny, and fans of Watt's zany animal characters will not be disappointed. ( )

I just watched a librarian read this at the Anythink library. So good. ( )

This book went over really well when I read it at story time with preschoolers, although I bet it would work even better with slightly older kids ( )
