Great beach read....and very fast read too. I thought it was a good story and I couldn't put it down once I started. ( )

I’ve heard that truth is stranger than fiction, and after reading some of the things I have, I have to agree. A Young Wife is a novel loosely based on the life of the author’s grandmother. Makes me glad I have a relatively boring life.

Most of the characters were distinctly unlikable, but the story was very well-written. It’s a definite page-turner, as you follow Minke across three continents, and experience love, betrayal, and surprising friendship. I didn’t cry AND there’s a happy ending. Double-win, I’d say.

I won this book in a GoodReads First-Reads giveaway. ( )

I really enjoyed this loosely based, true story. I enjoyed reading about Argentina and what it was like coming to the USA thinking it was the land of opportunity for everyone. Well written, and it held your attention for all of what was happening within the story. ( )

I enjoyed this book. It was a quick read and a quick glance at what it was like in 1912. Some of the things people gave up and some of the greed that happened back then. We have different greed now. It broke my heart a little bit knowing this was based on a true story but yet glad for Minke in the end. I would recommend this book. ( )

Thank you Goodreads for my advanced reader's copy! I would probably give this book a 3.5 if I could. I enjoyed each of the different narrative settings of the book, but they. felt disjointed to me, and this interfered with her character development. Overall, I think the episodes are well-written and the settings are original - I would have liked to spend more time with the characters in each place. ( )
