When bestselling romance novelist Mona Berman's husband announces that he's leaving her for Dominique, a French woman younger, thinner, and blonde, her life is turned upside down. Luckily, Mona has her two best friends to keep the good advice coming and the stiff martinis flowing. Adding to the fun are her three spirited teenage daughters; her faithful and fabulous assistant, Anthony; Ben, the world's sexiest plumber; and her crazy Aunt Lily, who moves in the day Mona's husband moves out. Mona and her girls head to the Jersey Shore for the summer, and they're in for a post-divorce adventure as juicy as one of Mona's novels.… (mer)

This was *such* a fun read! It's witty and it's amusing, and I really fell in love with the main character - she's totally awesome. :) ( )

This book was pretty decent. I liked the book the thing was there were several parts of the book that I just could not get into. A.) The whole Doug situation. How could he be so ugly but, have a great body and perfect lips...That made absolutely no sense to me. B.) The book stayed in the same place it felt as if it was going no where. I honestly felt like there were certain parts of the book that dragged. I did like the characters and I like that all of the girls were different and I adored Aunt Lily she gets 5 stars all together and needs her own book! ( )

I really enjoyed this light-hearted book about a 40-something romance writer whose husband leaves her for a younger woman. The snarky tone of the protaganist is reminiscent of that of Stephanie Plum in Janet Evanovich's books. The side characters are well-written too. Now, onto book #2... ( )

Easy read, perfect for the beach.

I love how it was making fun of Romance novels.

I would like it more if the back cover didn't tell me about Ben, the plumber and let me guess who will Mona pick at the end. The ending was predictable but the middle wasn't bad. I like all the other guys she dated, especially Mitch.

Mona is lucky to have 2 best friends and 3 very understanding daughters. The book made divorces seem easy and fun.

I don't like the famous book characters or hollywood celebrities references, I don't know some if not most of them that were mention in the book.

I thought the book was released in 2013, why was it making such a big deal on technology? Who doesn't use caller id or GPS now a day?

There's a typo on Page 198
"This is a much nicer boat *than* the one Brian usually rented."

Description:

Mona Berman is a best-selling romance novelist, the mother of three teenage girls, and a dedicated wife. She has a great job, has penned twenty-seven romances, and is optimistic about her family's future. Until that is, her husband, Brian, decides to pack his bags, file for divorce, and leave her for a skinny, French twenty-something.
Faced with the biggest shock of her life, Mona must recover by finding herself before everything swirls down the drain. Can Mona be the woman she was without Brian? Are the romances in her books truly fiction? Is love still an option? With help from her romance savvy daughters, her best friend, a crazy aunt, a matchmaking neighbor, and a plumber "too sexy for his"... everything, she may still have a chance at "happily ever after"!

Review:

This book is definitely one of the better romantic comedies I have come across lately. I love characters with real personalities, real flaws, and the ability to overcome whatever gets thrown at them, and that is what I see in Mona Berman - as well as in her cohorts. Mona is hit with news that would floor any woman, but that doesn't stop her from making the most of a bad situation. Dee Ernst's characters are genuinely fun to read about; it feels like they live next door, and I wish they did! The story-line isn't your typical "chick-lit" romance, as a matter of fact, I thought the premise of a newly divorced mother of three finding herself and loving again was refreshing; especially since Mona was looked to as an authority on love, and her own happy ending, (with Brian), failed. I also appreciated that I didn't really know who Mona was going to end up with. The book had a mild predictability, not enough to displeasure readers, and the dialogue was smart, funny, and encouraging. Readers will have no problem falling in love with the characters, particularly Mona's crazy aunt and three daughters - I hope that they make appearances in Dee Ernst's future novels. Recommended for lovers of the chick-lit genre, as well as those looking for an example of how to be 'Better Without Him...'

Rating: On the Run (4/5)
