Gilles J. Lavigne, DMD, MSc, PhD, FRCD(C) (Oral medicine), is a Canada Research Chair in Pain, Sleep and Trauma; dean and professor of dentistry at the University of Montreal; and director of the Trauma Research Axis at Montreal Sacre Coeur Hospital. Dr Lavigne completed postdoctoral training in neurobiology of pain at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, and is internationally recognized for his experimental and clinical research on sleep bruxism and the interaction of sleep, pain, and breathing disorders. He is co-editor of two textbooks, Sleep and Pain (IASP, 2007) and Orofacial Pain, second edition (Quintessence, 2008). Peter A. Cistulli, MBBS, PhD, MBA, FRACP, is a professor of respiratory medicine and the founding head of the Discipline of Sleep Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Sydney, Australia. He is an active clinician in pulmonary and sleep medicine, head of the Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine at Royal North Shore Hospital, and a research leader within the Sleep and Circadian Group at the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research. His research on dental aspects of obstructive sleep apnea diagnosis and the clinical role of oral appliances in its management has been a major contribution to the evidence base in the field. Dr Cistulli received the Pierre Robin and Honorary Member Award from the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine and is a former president of the Australasian Sleep Association. Michael T. Smith, PhD, CBSM, is an associate professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences and director of the Behavioral Sleep Medicine Program, Johns Hopkins University Medical School, Baltimore, Maryland. He is a licensed clinical psychologist and board certified in behavioral sleep medicine by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. Dr Smith's research investigates the neurobehavioral causes, consequences, and treatments of insomnia and sleep loss. His ongoing interdisciplinary work focuses on the effects of sleep deprivation and sleep continuity disturbance on central pain processing in both healthy individuals and patients with chronic pain disorders, including temporomandibular joint disorders. Dr Smith is co-author of Cognitive Behavioral Treatment of Insomnia: A Session-by-Session Guide (Springer, 2005).… (mer)
