Her gaze rested on an interesting face with brilliant blue eyes, blond hair and sweet features. He leaned against the bar with his hands cradled around his warm cup and, walking to the bartender, Siobhan took in his tall, slim figure and felt a knot in her stomach when he cast a sideway glance in her direction – caught in the act, she quickly looked away. 
Men rarely stirred in her any reaction but strangers generally proved more interesting than their local counterparts; other women present soon whispered to each other as they ogled at the new arrival and prepared a hunting strategy.
Siobhan, competitive as ever, resolved to dwarf all their efforts. This decision surprised her; he was not a handsome man, nor particularly well-dressed with his jeans and tee combination; but these imperfections did not stop her from looking. The longer she observed him, the more interesting it rendered his face: his large, quizzical eyes, his flawless complexion and the arch of his brow. His blond hair kept fairly short, curly and covered with a hat that reminded her of Sherlock Holmes; an old-fashioned look.
Whether brought on by ennui or profound fascination, she resumed her observation, while also keeping an eye on her rivals – two cashiers all fake eyelash and piles of slap. Yes, he would do just fine. She had been wrong about him; he was handsome. But it was not apparent as with other men and most people would deem him perfectly plain. As he returned to his drink, he turned his neck to chance another look her way and she quickly averted her eyes.
