Hobhouse is sui generis. Her jacket photo is dreadful but in person she's alive and strangely brilliant. This book is about color and rivals any on my shelves.

This would be my favorite gardening book for the gorgeous photos alone, but it also offers lots of good information about the plants and how to combine colors in the garden. It's not just about the colors of flowers, though there is plenty of that. Leaf colors and bark colors are also discussed. Hobhouse is a British gardening expert, so the plant choices are very suitable for the U.S. Northwest, where I live.
