A fun paranormal romance/urban fantasy that focuses on fae rather than the more cliched vampires and werewolves. All around good read, that stays close to traditional fae depictions while throwing in some original twists of Drummond's own. The story was enjoyable, the characters interesting, and as a bonus, the female protagonist actually gets to be the hero at the end and rescue her human love.

Eh, not my best review by the flu is kicking my butt. It's a good book that I highly recommend for fans of fantasy and romance. ( )

Interesting take on Magic

This was a fun read. I really liked how the main character, the faerie, was so naive to the human world. Even after living near them for many long years, she was still unfamiliar with the culture and behaviors of the humans.
There was some chemistry between the two main characters, but it didn't develop too much.
The characters were quite thoughtful, but I wished that deeper emotion was portrayed. I just wasn't sucked into the story. It didn't leave me screaming with awe.
Great fantasy world and development.
Clean read. A few swear words. ( )

Liked sample, main character seems like will engage my interest, potential for good world building. Kinda depends on where series is going; I am not a big fan of cop stories, urban fantasy, or mystery/thriller/suspense things. Likely to buy and see what first book is like and if the powers/world-building of main character and her to-be cop partner and all the paranormal stuff outweigh the cop story aspect ... will invest in series.

Good story, though I would have liked the author to put in more description. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes mystical stories with high stakes, but not too much graphic violence (there is some). ( )

Young Adult Paranormal Romance in an urban fantasy setting. This should be enjoyable for lovers of the genre, less so for readers of urban fantasy eager for a bit of substance in the non-romance aspects of the story.

The first few scenes start off quite intriguingly as a (possibly supernatural) murder mystery in a well-rendered, rainy corner of Perth.

An outcast fairy who in time mellowed to the humans among whom she needed to live is a great character idea (most of her people are portrayed, quite in keeping with a good chunk of fairy lore, as not particularly moral or caring), and I would have loved to see that happening over time.
Everything else piled for more exceptional-ness feels quite over the top though. And the distribution of allowed/bannable magical abilities sounds just odd.

What comes afterward unfortunately doesn't make the most of the enjoyable start, killing the whodunit very quickly, not making much more use of the specific setting, and dedicating itself mostly to the exploration of the heroine's extreme snowflake-ness, and the usual YA paranormal romance (treated with a relatively light hand overall, but many tropes the genre has become a bit too well-known for over those last years do show up).
