I loved this book couldn't stop reading it, I even to took it on holiday with me to finish it. Can't wait to start the last one. ( )

Ugh! As good as the first novel was, this one was exhausting, feeling trapped in the mind of a 16 year old, all wishy-washy, and literally, caught in the middle...because there is one more book to read to complete this series. I’m not going to give a full honest review because this was clearly meant for teens, or young adults, which I’m not, and it wouldn’t be fair to the author. My soon-to-be 16 year old granddaughter will be reading it pretty soon. I’m curious as to how she will rate this book. I know she’ll love the first one.

Insurgent picks up exactly where Divergent leaves off. The five fractions fenced in around Chicago are warring and falling apart. Jeanine Matthews of Erudite, and her followers, want to preserve the fractions but wants total control of all the fractions and has created a traceable mind-controlled serum that works with a transmitter that is programmed from a computer. The problem? It doesn’t work on the Divergent whose minds can’t be controlled. It is important to get them under her control because there is a hint of something going on outside their fenced in city that will destroy the factions and their little utopia they thought they had going on.

This book ends with a lot of death and division in all the factions, and the discovery of an old video made by Edith Prior, an ancestor of Tris, who she had never heard of before, and who started the factions, foretelling that one day the Divergent will rise up together and come and save the people on the outside world (?...I'm 55 years old and not sure I even understood this part because I thought there was something on the outside that was going to come in and threaten the factions... ( )

I liked Insurgent a bit more than Divergent and am hopeful for progress by the time Allegiant gets here. Much of what happened in Divergent could have been squeezed into a smaller book or combined with Insurgent. I enjoyed the revelations of this story. While the big secret wasn't revealed it was suggested. There could be something good coming if there is some editing used and possibly some beta-readers involved. If the final book comes and I'm disappointed...well I'll know never to read this author again. ( )

Couldn't stick with this one. Quit about a third of the way in. Lots of talk, but not much happening. ( )
