I just loved this series as a kid. I still enjoy rereading this book. It never occurred to me how closely the movie followed the book. Such a classic, and so well done for a children's fantasy. ( )
So I finally read the first Narnia book. Never had read any before, haven't even seen the movies. I'm glad I finally read it, I liked it, but don't feel like I missed out previously by not reading it. (Does that even make sense? Anyways, it's how I feel). I probably will read the others, though. ( )
Dreadfully uninspired, chalked full of overt symbolism with inexplicable coincidences at every turn. As a work of fiction, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is an example only of how to not weave stories or create strong characters. ( )
When I began reading the story, it seemed well written but the fairy-tale atmosphere was curiously cut-and-dried... Two of my daughters re-educated me. I made the mistake of reading them the first chapter, and since then it has been two chapter a night, sometimes followed by tears when a third chapter is not forthcoming.
