Inledande ord |
Information från den engelska sidan med allmänna fakta. Redigera om du vill anpassa till ditt språk. Preface Nowadays there is more music in our lives than at any previous time in history. Music surrounds us as we buy food or clothes, drive our cars, sit in the park, or jog down the street. Much of this is our own choice: we have radios in our cars, portable cassette players on our belts. Some of it may be unwanted: our neighbor's stereo, for example, or the "boom box" on the beach. Some of it we actually do not notice. There is so much noise in our daily environment that the music playing in elevators or stores sometimes simply merges with the surroundings.

Avslutande ord |
Information från den engelska sidan med allmänna fakta. Redigera om du vill anpassa till ditt språk. As the twenty-first century gets underway, a serious question arises. Will the accessibility and enormous profitability of popular music swamp more delicate and financially unstable musics? Audiences at classical-music concerts, folk festivals, and jazz clubs are diminishing rapidly. Will young people grow up appreciating the complexity, and the richness of older musical traditions? And, around the world, will the multiplicity of world musical cultures survive the overwhelming popularity and commercial pressures of Western pop and rock? In 20 or 30 years, we'll know the answers to these questions. (Klicka för att visa. Varning: Kan innehålla spoilers.)
