It's been close to a millennium since the hero was turned against his will and lost the lightness inside of him, becoming a monster-a vampire. Outcast from his brethren, only alive because his best friend disobeyed orders and didn't kill him. Now his solitude has been disturbed. The hero's quiet life has been rocked when that friend returns with a fragile woman and asks for his aid in keeping her safe. The hero is astonished to learn that this woman is not only the last surviving female Paladin but also his fated mate. As he is soulless and burdened by constant cravings for blood and the guilt of his past actions, the hero denies himself the chance to bond with his woman. The heroine makes this easy for him. She's been told to hate vampires and fear them. So when she wakes up in a strange house with a vampire she freaks. Though he tries to tell her he won't hurt her, she takes every opportunity to escape. But when she's taken to the Paladins, thinking that her people will keep her safe, he tries to warn her about their true motives. That they'll see her as the last female of their race and force a bonding on her. But she ignores his warnings. When the people that were supposed to help her try to force her to mate with an elder, she runs away and goes to the only person whom she can think to trust-the vampire hero. There she realizes the truth she's been missing all along. She feels the connection deep inside between she and him and becomes determined to have him as her own. I liked this story up to a point. I enjoyed the hero with his tortured guilt and loneliness. And the fact that he was willing to storm the gates of the people who will kill him on site to save a woman who's made no attempt to hide the fact she's disgusted by him. He's possessive but he's not willing to enslave her to a bonding with a male who's only got darkness to him now. But on that note I didn't feel as if the story had a smooth rhythm. It sort of jumped quite drastically from the heroine hating him and his kind to 'jump into bed with me'. I was sort of put off by such a dramatic change of feelings. From there I was less than engaged in the story. I did feel a glimmer of something when the hero finds the heroine dying after being kidnapped. So I think a healthy 3 star rating is fair as I wouldn't have any complaints with reading this story again in the future but it is far from top 10 material. "3 out of 5 stars!! This novel/series is an interesting mix of mystery, romance, and the supernatural. I could not get enough!! The multiple plots that are within this novel seem ..." Check out my review and a TWO TEASERS here: http://frommetoyouvideophoto.blogspot.com/2012/01/made-grade-paladin-warrior-ser... I read this book in no time, the pages just kind of flew by. There was passion, there was drama and there was this ease over it all which I appreciated. Roland then, he is your good guy, who is sadly bad, but does not want to be. While Karissa is your good girl, running from the baddies. And one of Roland's old buddies brings her around to keep her safe. Which she does not like, considering Roland is bad and all. They are meant to be and nothing can stop that. I needed a bit of fated love where the man goes all mine! Where they are totally wrong but that pull of true love gets them together. Where things might be rushed, but hey, it's love. And here I liked it. There was something light over the language here which worked well in this rather dark world. The Paladins, the good guys, do not seem that good when all comes down to it. And the bad guys, well they are evil. There were side-characters too around and I hope Logan finds love, I would like to see more of a certain vamp girl, and a certain paladin grew on me. I'd read more of this light yet so dark paranormal romance. Conclusion: It's a promising start to a new series. True love, evil vampires out to get you and secrets that will keep you entertained.

In addition to my confusion the idea of a 24 year old virgin heroine grates on my nerves. Yes it is possible yet the reasoning behind it was never explained. No she wasn't F'ugly. No she didn't HeeHaw when she laughed. She wasn't Queen of the Looney Bin either. Yet in this day and age this attractive, single, intelligent woman was mysteriously still a virgin (which the hero could smell by the way....TANGENT UP AHEAD~~~~does anyone else find it a bit yucky that the hero could smell her hymen?~~TANGENT OVER). Karissa not only was a virgin but she went from hating and being scared of our hero, Roland (who spoke terms of endearments in French for no apparent reason other than all vampires should speak French...thank you for that BS Ann Rice), to the Newest Member of Slutsville in a millisecond (or less). Her remarkable attitude adjustment from hatred and fear to acceptance of Roland being her mate was jarring and left me wondering how in the world it happened.
Now for the good stuff....The last 1/3 of the book was pretty awesome. Epic battles between good and evil. Tough decisions were made by several people. The lines were blurred a bit between good and evil. Not to mention some characters separated themselves from the backdrop to become intriguing and totally piqued my interest to where I will totally go on to read books 2 and 3 even though the first 2/3s of the book could have been better.
