Wow! 185 recipes for preserving and pickling the harvest! My boys love pickles and so do I, so I had to get this book.

I love the art/graphics and colors throughout this book. I also like the different fonts used for titles, it sets off sections of the book nicely.

Chapter one teaches us all about the pickling process. What ingredients do we need? What kind of cucumbers shall we use? What about salt, sweeteners, vinegar, water and spices and herbs? Wow...we can pickle just about any kind of vegetable! I love the profile about a couple who began their own pickling business called "Real Pickles." Chapter one even has a recipe to make your own pickling spices and so much more.

Chapter two teaches us about fermenting with detailed instructions. What a great teaching tool this book is for learning any type of pickling technique. More profiles about people who are making a living pickling. And finally several recipes for sour pickles, I will definitely have to try one or several of these! We are introducing several other vegetables in this chapter like beans, beets, sauerkraut, cabbage, carrots, tomatoes and others.

Chapter three is filled with single jar pickle recipes, starting out with dills, my favorite. Chapter four is also filled with many recipes for the large harvest of vegetables. Chapter five introduces us to many recipes for salsas, relishes and chutneys. Chapter six has many recipes for refrigerator and freezer pickles. I didn't know you could freeze pickles! The author continues to include profiles of different people who create recipes under these titles.

Lastly, we learn how to use all these pickles in creating other recipes to enjoy. How about a pickle shot? Yummy, fried pickles, we love these. Thousand Island Dressing, Dilly Mustard Coleslaw, Dilled Potato Egg Salad and even dessert, German Chocolate Sauerkraut Cake.

I received this book free from the publisher for this review. I was not required to write a positive review. These opinions about this book are my own.
