This is a classic story of Hansel and Gretel who were abandoned by their parent in the woods. They encounter the witch and had to escape. This book is a folk tale picture book and is great for telling the traditional story of Hansel and Gretel. ( )

This is not one of my favorite fairy tales however, I think it could teach children a lot. It definitely can teach them about how family is everything and how you should always stick together, It can teach them not to trust strangers, and lastly, it can teach them how good always wins over evil. Students can benefit from reading this story, especially because it is a classic. I can see myself teaching this to my students, mostly because I want to teach english! ( )

Browne sets one of my favorite tales in modern times and brings to the deliciously scary illustrations an artist's sensibility that gives me fresh goosebumps. I would not read this at bedtime, despite the happy ending. But I did find it wonderful and I recommend it to anyone who has gotten a kick out of these brave & clever children. If I had children with whom to share it, I would buy it.

This version of Hansel and Gretel is pretty much the re-told version of the original story. The siblings come across a house made of candy and that house belongs to a witch. I am aware that this story is supposed to be a little bit "dark", but the illustrations in this book really bring out the darkness of the story. I enjoyed the illustrations more than the actual repetitive story. ( )
