This translation, and commentary by Cyril Mango, was finished before 1988. The book itself was probably written about 806 CE. It covers the period from Heraclius to the Marriage of Constantine V in 689. This is not a good book, often confused about chronology and containing little that was not covered in the history by Theophanos. Still it is our best source for one plot and for some ecclesiastical, military and genealogical questions. Overall, it is skippable unless you are serious about your bibliography. ( )
