The Monster Hunters

Action is the hallmark of this book. It reads like a D&D adventure - you can dip into it at any time and know precisely what is going on - our heroes are trying to wipe out the monsters threatening the world. The author carefully and clearly describes the guns, grenade launchers, ammunition loads, and custom weapons designed specifically to tear these monsters apart.

There is a story - of Owen Z. Pitt's introduction to the world of monsters when his boss turns into a werewolf, of his subsequent recruitment into the elite if secretive world of the Monster Hunters, monster killing, and a love story. He is attracted to his ideal woman early on, one who shoots like a sharpshooter and can field strip a gun with her eyes closed, but is she attracted to him?

The author is not afraid of going over the top - a key element of the plot is set in motion after Owen dies early in the story. Owen does come back, but it is clear that the author does not hesitate to kill key players. I read this book to the end, but am unlikely to read more of these - the loving descriptions of death and destruction could be described as "violence-porn" - and I don't need that much catharsis in my life. ( )

A burly gun enthusiast writes an adventure novel about a burly hero that totes around big guns and kills even bigger monsters.

Too much fun to be a guilty pleasure. ( )

I'm a 40something year old woman who loves historical fiction. I stumbled across this on audible.com and fell in love with the high octane action and quirky humor. This book has a little of everything, monsters of all type and sort, car chases, explosions, guns, and every imaginable weapon. All washed down with a large drink of snarky wit. Can Owen save the world and get the girl? Buckle up your helmet kiddies it's a hell of a ride. Do yourself a favor and read the first chapter where our humble hero Owen Z. Pitt will make you fall in love too. ( )
