I really enjoyed Robin & Jules' story in the Troubleshooters books, but this short story didn't work for me. It was supposedly the story of how Robin came to be a SAHD, but a huge chunk of it was taken up by the story of Joe, the character Robin plays on a hit TV show. The structure of the story was very strange in that Joe's story is written as if it's as real as Robin's, even though in-world Robin is real and Joe is fictional. I would far rather have read more about the effect that playing a closeted character had on Robin than the story of that character. Beginnings and Ends (short story) Troubleshooters series #17.5 Short story featuring Robin & Jules. This specifically revolves around Robin's acclaimed cable series "Shadowland" which has been referred to in previous books as being very challenging for him as an actor as well as personally because it is based somewhat on his real-life experiences of being an alcoholic and an A-list actor facing the dilemma of coming out as a gay man and facing the potential loss of work, fame, income, friendships, etc. It is difficult for Robin because he has to dip his toes back into the dark feelings he used to have before he quit drinking and when he was terrified to admit he was gay (and before he married Jules). He's come to a crossroads in his life and his career and he and Jules have exciting plans and changes coming in the near future. This also covers how Robin's TV series handles the series finale. Both stories (personal and make-believe) are wrapped up nicely. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension

I happily paid $2 for a short story about Jules and Robin. Instead, I got a hodgepodge of somewhat confusing scenes that alternated between Robin's Shadowland character's life and small glimpses into his real life, and not much of Jules at all, frankly.
In the end, I wanted more of everything - more Jules and Robin together, obviously, but also more fleshing out of Joe's life which was actually pretty interesting on its own, and could probably stand a couple books devoted to him.
And then the ending which was a bit out of nowhere (in the text - it was alluded to in the title) and rushed, and given short shrift for such a momentous decision ( )
