Zoom Broom (utgåvan 1999)

In this book, Gritch the Witch is hungry for some Bunny Bread, but when she goes out to get it, her broom seems to be broken. She can't fly anywhere. So she makes her way to Foxy's to buy one. After searching a long time for the right broom for Gritch, she finally decides a broom is much to old fashioned for her. She wants something hip and up to date. Foxy finally gives her a up to date flying car that she decides to buy and zoom off in. I thought this book was a very cute and short spin of a fairytale. The pages included a lot of words and text so it is appropriate for 3rd and 4th graders. There isn't any true moral to the story it's just a fun read. There were many comical parts in the story as well, including when the salesman related his merchandise to other previous fairytales. This is a great book for readers who are looking for a laugh and an easy read. ( )

A witches broom wont work anymore so she decides to go to the store and buy a new one. What she walks out with is not a broom but a car!

Summary: A witches broom gives out and she must find other means of transportation, after considering her options, she walks into a dealership. A foxy sales man then attempts to make a sale by going though a "who's on first? routine" Finally the witch wants something new, something hip, and something happening. The fox shows her a car and she peels out with the fox in the car.

Personal Reaction: The book kept me interested by showing different types of transportation for the witch to consider from other stories.

Extension Ideas: Ask the students to name other means of transportation the fox showed the witch. What story they think they came from?

Witch tries to buy a broom from fox but which one - Witch 1? I have always wanted to read this one as a read aloud, but know that it is one to be read by yourself. It is hilarious! ( )

I love this book. I like the play on words in that the author uses. My favorite part about the book was when she took the sly fox for a ride in her new car. I would read this book to students around halloween. ( )
