Fiction. Romance. HTML:

Sadie Townsend is known by all as The Ice Princess, and she's worked hard to earn her reputation. Her father, a now-incarcerated Drug Lord, has kept her under his thumb her whole life, and she's learned enough from living in his world to give everyone the cold shoulder.

But one inebriated night, she shows Hector the Real Sadie, and he knows he'll stop at nothing to have her.

Hector Chavez makes one (huge) mistake: he waits for Sadie to come to him.

Tragedy strikes and Sadie's got a choice. She can retreat behind her Ice Fortress, or she can embrace the Rock Chick/Hot Bunch World.

Guided by Hector, the Rock Chicks, the Hot Bunch and her new roommates, Buddy and Ralphie, Sadie negotiates a life out from under her father's thumb.

A life that includes poison, arson and learning how to make s'mores.

This one goes to the top of my favorites in this series.
Sadie is awesome. Watching her go on her journey from frozen ice princess to learning about her true self. It was an amazing ride. Rock On Rock Chicks! ( )

My favorite of the rock chick books. I loved how real and intense the story felt. I thought the author did a good job with the aftereffects of the rape that takes place in the first few pages. The hero is wonderful with the heroine. All the rock chicks are there and I actually liked the two gay guys in this one better than the OTT guy who lives next door to Indy. Just a beautiful story of healing and finding a place to belong. ( )

Okay I admit I had to re-read this one a couple of hours after I finished it. The first time around I was mostly crying so I had to make sure I didn't miss anything through my tears (devastated and happy tears).

Sadie Townsend met Hector Chavez when he was undercover for the DEA to bring down her father, a notorious drug king aka King Death. Sadie knew who Hector was and tried to help him by passing along information. One drunken night Sadie makes her move, things heat up, and before they can go all the way she calls a halt to it. Hector calls her some choice words and that's it. Sadie pulls those walls closer to her heart and mind. A week later her father's operation is taken down and she thinks she'll never see Hector again.

How does the saying go....never say never.

Some time has passed and now Sadie is turning to Lee Nightingale hoping he can and will help her. Of course things can't go as easy as she hoped they would. Walking into the office everyone who is there gives her dirty looks and is rude. Going into Lee's office she gets a further surprise that almost makes her turn around and walk out the door, but she's desperate for Lee's help. Ice Princess (nickname given to her but well everyone) bucks up and continues with the meeting under Hector's watchful eyes. Lee asks her what she wants and since Hector is there she doesn't want to tell him too much. She gives him the basics, she's feeling threatened and she wants to hire his bodyguard services. Since she won't tell him outright (the Balducci brothers are taking over her father's business and think that the one who "wins" Sadie gets wins the control) he tells her that he can't help her. She's almost in a panic when he continues to tell her no and refers her to someone else. Eventually she gives in, thanks him, tells Hector she hopes he is doing well and leaves.

Later that night a broken Sadie manages to drive her car into the underground parking lot of Nightingale Investigations....but just barely. Jack in the surveillance room sees what's going on and immediately calls Luke and Hector who are on their way to the offices. What he sees is so bad he lets them know there's a woman in trouble, they need to call an ambulance and he's leaving the room. Ricky Balducci has made his move. He has beaten and raped her. We find out at the hospital she has 5 broken ribs, a broken wrist, dislocated shoulder, severe concussion, and a cut on her cheek that needed stitches. The guys get there and immediately Hector carries her to the SUV and tells Luke to get them to the hospital. Sadie is in and out of consciousness...he tells her not to fall asleep until they get to where the doctor are so they can make sure she'll wake up. Killed me when she tells him:
"No, really, It only matters if there's someone to care if you don't wake up. It's okay if I don't wake up because there's no one to care."

And thus begins the story of Sadie and Hector. Him knowing she's his woman and has been since he was undercover and discovered she was feeding him information. Okay so most of it was useless but she didn't know that. His guilt that he waited for her to come to him...and may have waited too long.

Lee's guilt of knowing that the Balducci's (there's 4 of those sick bastards) were giving her trouble but not taking her back because she didn't tell them that's the reason she needed a body guard.

The Rock Chicks finding out Sadie is nothing like they think she is. They let her reputation as an Ice Princess and back stabber color their view of her without getting to know her. And once they do....yea, more tears and guilt to go around.

Daisy turned her back on Sadie after she thought Sadie had spoken badly about her behind her back to two other acquaintances....when Daisy learns what really happened and what role her husband played in keeping Sadie away from Daisy, well she wasn't happy to say the least.

Sadie is not used to having anyone care about her so when Ralphie (her employee at her art gallery)
and his lover Buddy take her in and take care of her she doesn't know how to handle it. Sobbed like a baby when she's trying to shower and can't. Buddy comes to help her and she's so embarrassed he tells her "I'm gay and a nurse, I wipe people's asses for a living. Do you think this fazes me?" The other thing I love about these two, they bring their friend Bex to meet her. Bex is a counselor at a rape crisis clinic. She doesn't let Sadie know this until after they start talking and then doesn't pressure her...tells her she there whenever she needs her. Thankfully Sadie does call and go see her on a professional level. (It bothers me how in other books I've read the issue of rape comes up but there is never any mention of counseling or the other trauma a victim goes through as they are trying to find a new normal. I want to thank KA for making sure this was included. The struggle is real and the way she wrote it....Sadie is lucky to have such a strong support system.)

There's a lot of action in the book as two more of the brothers try to get a hold of Sadie. The are gallery is torched. Her father is trying to get a hold of her from prison so he can give her information to get business done. Turns out he has money that he's hidden away but it's for Sadie to get a hold of and move somewhere far from Denver and the Balducci's so she can live a good life. He's also not thrilled that she is now seeing Hector.

But mostly we get to see Sadie try to figure out who she really is. She's out from under her father's thumb so this freedom is different. She's learning what it means to have genuine friends and the good things that come along with that. Most of all she's trying to trust that giving Hector her love and trust is a good thing. That she doesn't need to be alone and lonely anymore.

I won't go into all the things that are revealed and who does what but there are some head scratching moments that's for damned sure.

Now on to the final book in the series. Does it make sense that I don't want to read it because I don't want my time with these characters to end. I don't know if it can top this one as my favorite, guess we'll just have to read and see.

Sadie and Hector.
I love this story she is totally nuts and it is hilarious but there are also some extremely moving and emotional scenes.

Love the gallery scene when Aaron visits, so emotional.

Hector is a hot head so although he tries to be patient and understanding he still calls her the most complicated woman he knows.

The development of Sadie is an emotional one, she is such a mess, having lived the life of 'The Ice Princess' she is not used to and at times is unable to express emotion. At the beginning after she is attacked and returns to Nightingale's offices it is such an emotional roller coaster, Hector wins your heart being there for her.
