A powerful account, by Israeli peace activist Miko Peled, of his transformation from a young man who'd grown up in the heart of Israel's elite and served proudly in its military into a fearless advocate of nonviolent struggle and equal rights for all Palestinians and Israelis. His journey is mirrored in many ways the transformation his father, a much-decorated Israeli general, had undergone three decades earlier. Alice Walker contributed a foreword to the first edition in which she wrote, "There are few books on the Israel/Palestine issue that seem as hopeful to me as this one." In the new Epilogue he takes readers to South Africa, East Asia, several European countries, and the West Bank, Gaza, and Israel itself.… (mer)

This book by Miko Peled is fascinating; It tells the story of his and his father's changes. His father was a general in the IDF and became a committed pacifist.

Miko Peled has taken the path of pacifism a step further and seems to be against many actions that Israel takes against the Palestinians. It is a remarkable journey and one worth following.

I commend him the courage of conviction. ( )

This book is amazing, not because of the way it is written but because of the integrity in which it is written. Furthermore the authenticity of the voice of Miko Peled carries you through his journey. To me, having experienced the brutal terror of the IDF, the words are not just describing of a man's journey but also of a man's conflict and in that, all of us. The way we wish to identify ourselves and whether the identity we choose is really true to who we are deep down. It takes courage to choose humanity and to renounce terror, even if it means going against the very own voices who gave you your identity. ( )

The remarkable biography of Miko Peled, the son of the Matti Peled who as an Israeli general participated in Israel's successful preemptive Six Day's War against Egypt, Jordan and Syria. In the years following the war, General Peled became an outspoken peace activist who came to be known among his one time enemy, the Palestinians, as the "Father of Peace." The story of General Peled is told by his son, Miko Peled who also relates how he came to follow his father's footsteps by becoming one of a growing number of Israeli peace activists. ( )
