Lyrical language & striking illustrations relate this terrific story of survival in the Arctic. The fact that the author features the 2 children on board makes this an engaging readaloud for Juniors, especially when they study natives of North America. ( ) While the good ship Fish was slowly being crushed in teh Arctic ice, the captain sat in the galley and played eacdh phonograph record one last time before tossing it into the stove. Based on a true account of an ill-fated 1913 Canadian Arctic expedition, the book tells the story of an Inupiat family (including 2 young girls) whose cold-weather skills kept the membres of te expedition alive. Written in blank verse & illlustrated with black-&-white scratch-board drawings in the style of Inupiat art, the story is followed by photographs of the survivors. This is a story about two girls and their Journey on the “white man’s boat” which is part of the Canadian Artic Expedition. The story goes on to tell the story of what these two girls experience on their journey. And how although the boat is fully stocked with train professionals, there is always a rough chance for survival. The book tells the story of how the people on the ship and had find food and stay warn in hard conditions, and how sometimes food was so scarce that they didn’t eat at all. At the end of the story the two sisters and her family go back home and tell their grandmother their entire journey and how they are happy to be back home. I think this book was a very good book the educate students on this important voyage. The book provides a lot of information and the illustrations help give the reader a visualization of what is going on. This would be a great book for students to use for an assignment about this expedition. Very detailed, engaging, over all great educational book. inga recensioner | lägg till en recension
