I like this book. It is a very creative Christmas book. I used to love dinosaurs when I was younger so I like that there is a book about them celebrating a holiday. One of the things I like about this book is that the beginning of the it is all questions. Some of the questions that are asked are “Does he pick off some ornaments, angels and all?” or “Does he up-end the stockings right onto the floor?”. I like that it starts off as questions because then it allows me to think about how do I think dinosaurs would act or celebrate Christmas. I also like the second half of the book because then the author depicts a different kinds of dinosaurs. In the second half of the book the author states what dinosaurs do and they’re all positive things they do. For example, he says “He carols with care. He helps trim the tree so no branches are bare”. These are just two examples but the author depicts acceptable behaviors on Christmas and some could even be seen as traditions. The thing I like most of this book is how the dinosaurs are drawn because sometimes dinosaurs can be scary looking but in this book there are realistic looking dinosaurs but they are not scary. The overall message is to encourage positive actions and traditions during the holiday seasons. The book asks if there are multiple unacceptable actions the dinosaurs do such as taking things off the tree, dumping the stockings, or licking all the candy canes but in the end the author says no and lists positive actions the dinosaurs have such as clearing all the dishes away or kissing their grandparents good night. Those (potentially) mischievous dinosaurs, who debuted in author Jane Yolen and illustrator Mark Teague's How Do Dinosaurs Say Good Night?, return in this holiday title. With rhyming text and colorful artwork, this creative team explore how their dinosaur subjects behave at Christmas. Do they destroy everything? Or are they good - good enough that Santa brings them something nice...?

The answer to that is a foregone conclusion, but hearing all about the potential reverse, as the author describes all the possible bad behaviors, will be quite entertaining for young listeners, who will also enjoy the bright, colorful artwork that accompanies the text. Only the second book in this series I have read, after the first, How Do Dinosaurs Say Merry Christmas? has the same fun combination of rhyming text and humorous illustration. Recommended to young dinosaur lovers in the market for holiday titles. ( )

Would have liked it much better if the dinosaurs weren't all boys. The bright side is that "he" is really easy to change to "she" when reading aloud.

Very similar to the Hanukkah title, except, obviously, about Christmas. The humor comes from seeing the realistic-looking dinosaurs, oversized (though not to scale as far as I know), interacting with humans and Christmas time objects such as Christmas trees and so on. The art manages to inject a lot of personality into the dinosaurs, giving this one a sly look, that one a manic look, etc. They're pretty adorable. The story again contrasts good and bad behavior on Christmas (unwrapping everyone's presents before Christmas, licking all the candy canes, eating all the cookies vs. caroling, trimming the tree, kissing your grandparents and sleeping when Santa comes). It'd make a good storytime title because of the oversize format and popular subject matter. ( )
